About Inclusive Sport SA Inc.
Inclusive Sport SA has a simple purpose, to build an inclusive community through sport and recreation. We do this by working with the sport and recreation sector and individuals living with disability, disadvantage or who are marginalised and build their capacity. Every Australian should benefit from access to sport and recreation and Inclusive Sport SA is dedicated to removing barriers and creating opportunities.

The Role – Director
The overarching role of directors is to provide Inclusive Sport SA Inc. (ISSA) with sound governance, fiduciary and strategic oversight, and direction. The board oversee the strategic direction of the organisation, ensuring that the objects of the association are successfully carried out.

In addition to these general requirements, each director is expected to bring specific skills, knowledge and expertise which are required based on the skills of existing directors. These skills are referred to as preferred skills.

The ISSA board meets six times per year (every second month, usually on the last Thursday, starting at 5pm) and directors are required to attend meetings. Additionally, each director is expected to sit on at least one committee of the board.

Directors are engaged on a volunteer basis and are expected to serve for a minimum term of two years.

Directors may from time to time be called upon to represent the organisation and sometimes be its spokesperson at, for example, functions or meetings.

Nomination and Selection Process 
ISSA is seeking new board members in both casual vacancies and appointed positions.

Applications for the ISSA Board are now currently being accepted.

The applications received will be considered for appointment at a time decided by the board.

While we encourage anyone to nominate, ISSA is particularly keen to encourage women and other diverse candidates to nominate. We believe that sport in South Australia plays an important role in creating an environment where the contribution of diverse individuals is valued, respected and encouraged. A key activity includes addressing the inequalities in participation, leadership in sport. One of the strategies identified to facilitate this positive change focuses on having a diverse board. We encourage all people to apply for this opportunity.

Desired Characteristics 
It is important that the person applying have characteristics which include:

  • An understanding of not-for-profit (NDIS) business / industry
  • A demonstrated passion for equality and inclusion
  • Ideas to expand our work
  • Business strategy and execution
  • An understanding of recognising and managing risk
  • An understanding of governance
  • An understanding of finance / accounting
  • Strong business networks

Based on ISSA’s future plans and current board composition, the board is seeking individuals with the following expertise:

  • Marketing communications and/or business development; and/or
  • Government policy / government relations; and/or
  • NDIS / NDIA / Disability Services within the NDIS framework.
  • Financial expertise (such as CA or CPA)
  • Governance expertise

To be eligible all candidates must be a active Inclusive Sport SA Member. A Membership Application Form can be submitted with a Board Director nomination.
