28 May BSSA Deliver Training Sessions to Rapidswim Staff
This week the Behaviour Support SA (BSSA) team delivered training sessions to over 20 Rapidswim pool staff focusing on managing challenging behaviour in aquatic environments.
Led by BSSA Clinical Lead Bianca Dubois and Behaviour Support Practitioner Tamsin Petzer, the sessions introduced Aquatic Therapists and Swim Instructors in attendance to a range of topics including awareness of sensory needs, understanding of behaviours and positive development techniques to utilise in water based scenarios.
The training evening aimed to provide the latest in best practice guidance and techniques to therapists and instructors to ensure that participants in Rapidswim programs continue to feel supported and safe as they work with staff towards their swimming and therapeutic goals.
“Offering this training is an important part of the professional development opportunities we are committed to providing for our staff,” said General Manager, Katrina Ranford.
“Our Behaviour Support SA team are among the leaders in the state regarding Positive Behaviour Support and it is imperative that we share their knowledge and expertise across our services including with staff working in the Rapidswim programs.”
“We hope that staff found the sessions and information provided on the evening useful for their roles,” said Rapidswim Manager, Ben Steer.
“Our aim is that staff utilise this knowledge in their work within programs to positively benefit the quality of services we are providing to participants and their families/caregivers at the pools.”
